Ozone in water meter

Dissolved Ozone (O3) Meter Tester

Available for purchase at: Ozone in water meter | Ecotao Store

Essential HI38054 test kit available at: HI38054 Water Ozone Test Kit | Ecotao Store

  • Dissolved Ozone (O3) meter. This pen type portable meter measures ozone up to 10.00mg/L in water. It is calibrated against a known ozone level such as determined by the ozone DPD chemical method.
  • This pen type pocket handheld portable meter with simple operation measures op to 10.00mg/L in water. The unit requires calibration against a known ozone concentration, such as a DPD ozone meter. If you do not have access to such a tool then you also need to purchase the Hanna HI38054 ozone chemical test kit as the calibration tool. The below tab also shows calibration against ORP, but this is less precise due to various water quality parameters.
  • A revolutionary way to instantly get dissolved ozone values by using tri-electroded method measuring technology. This delivers results faster and accurately, matching up to DPD results, without any reagent needed. The DOZ30 in your pocket is a smart tool to measure dissolved ozone.
  • The meter requires 1 x AAA battery (not included).

Table of ORP to ozone

Ozone level in clean water without chlorine and bromine to interfere can be correlated with ORP

If I have clean water with no chlorine or bromines, can I calibrate an ozone sensor against a published take of correlation between ORP level and ozone level or will the DPD chemical test method be more precise?

No, calibrating an ozone sensor with a published table of correlation between ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) level and ozone level in clean water won’t be as precise as the DPD (N,N-Diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) chemical test method. Here’s why:

  • Indirect Measurement: ORP measures the overall oxidizing capacity of water, not specifically ozone. Other oxidizers in the water can affect the ORP reading, leading to inaccurate ozone concentration estimation.
  • Published Correlations: Published tables are general and may not consider the specific conditions of your water, such as pH and temperature. These factors can influence the relationship between ORP and ozone.

The DPD test is a direct measurement specifically for ozone. It uses a colorimetric reaction to determine the ozone concentration in the water. This method is more reliable and provides a more accurate ozone reading.

Here’s a quick comparison:

MethodMeasurementAdvantagesDisadvantages
ORP CorrelationOxidation capacityConvenient, no chemicalsIndirect measurement, influenced by other oxidizers
DPD Chemical TestOzone concentrationDirect measurement, specific to ozoneRequires chemicals, manual steps

For accurate ozone sensor calibration, the DPD chemical test method is the recommended approach

HI38054 Water Ozone Test Kit

An ozone chemical test kit (CTK) is available. The ozone CTK uses the Checker disc that offers more points of resolution as compared to color cubes. All accessories are included with the CTK to measure ozone.

The HI38054 is a chemical test kit that uses the DPD method to measure ozone. The HI38054 is supplied complete with all of the reagents and equipment necessary to perform approximately 100 tests.

  • Pre-made reagents for ease of use
  • All reagents marked with expiration date and lot number for traceability
  • Checker® disc for more accurate determination

Description

The HI38054 is a chemical test kit that determines the ozone concentration in samples withing the 0.0 to 2.3 mg/L range. The HI38054 is supplied with all of the necessary reagents and equipment to perform both analyses, including the Checker® disc for accurate determination. The test kit contains enough reagents for perform approximately 100 tests.
  • Complete setup
    • All required materials are included with the test kit, such as the glass vials, plastic pipette, reagent packets, and Checker® disc.
  • High resolution
    • Readings from 0.0 to 2.3 mg/L are determined to 0.1 mg/L resolution.
  • Replacement reagents available
    • There is no need to buy a new kit when reagents are exhausted. The HI38054-100 can be ordered to replace the reagents supplied with the kit.

Ozone is an oxidizing agent that used in many industrial and consumer applications. Industrial applications include disinfection of drinking water, wastewater, and food processing rinse water. Ozone is a mild bleaching agent used in the textile industry. Ozone can also be used for oxidation reactions including the precipitation of manganese from drinking water and the oxidation of cyanide in plating wastewater. Ozone is versatile oxidizer whether as a germicide, deodorizer or a bleaching agent.
