Adjustable Volume Pipettes (Pipettors) & Micropipettes
Precision liquid-handling instruments for laboratories, from single-channel micropipettes down to 0.1µl to 8-channel models for microplate work.
An adjustable volume pipette (pipettor) is a mechanical, hand-held liquid-handling instrument used to draw up and dispense a precise, operator-set volume of liquid within a fixed calibration range — for example, a pipette rated 20–200µl can be dialled to deliver any volume within that band. A spring-loaded piston inside the shaft controls the draw and dispense stroke, and disposable plastic tips keep each sample from contaminating the next. Pipettes of this type are also called micropipettes when the range falls in the microlitre (µl) band, and are standard equipment in molecular biology, analytical chemistry, water testing, agriculture and food laboratories.
Ecotao supplies mechanical adjustable pipettes in single-channel, 8-channel and 12-channel formats, covering eleven volume-range options from 0.1µl up to 10ml. Full technical data sheets for the range are available on request.
How to choose the right pipette volume range
The correct pipette range is set by the smallest and largest single volumes you routinely need to measure — using a pipette near the bottom of its rated range increases relative error, so match the range to your typical working volume rather than buying one pipette to cover everything. As a general rule: reagent and primer work in PCR and molecular biology sits in the 0.5–20µl bands, general reagent and buffer additions sit in the 20–1000µl bands, and bulk media or diluent transfers use the 1–10ml range. Where a lab runs a full workflow across several volume bands, it is common to keep one pipette from each of three or four ranges on the bench rather than one pipette stretched across its full working span.
Single-Channel Adjustable Volume Pipettes
Lightweight, ergonomic, low-force mechanical pipette with a nozzle ejector for tip removal. Volume is adjusted within the stated range using the dial at the top of the shaft. Available in nine calibrated ranges from 0.1µl to 10ml — see the full table below for the exact range you need.
8-Channel & 12-Channel Multichannel Pipettes
Manual multichannel pipettes for filling 96-well microplates in one stroke instead of one well at a time. The 8-channel model is available in 0.5–10µl, 5–50µl and 50–300µl ranges. Not yet listed on the online store — email or call to confirm configuration, lead time and current stock.

Pipette features
Every Ecotao pipettor uses a lightweight, ergonomic, low-force design intended to reduce hand fatigue during repetitive pipetting sessions. Volume is set by turning the calibrated dial to any point within the pipette's stated range, and a spring-loaded nozzle ejector releases the disposable tip at the press of a button so the operator never needs to handle a used tip directly — important for avoiding cross-contamination between samples in molecular biology and diagnostic work.
Frequently asked questions
What is an adjustable volume pipette (pipettor)?
A mechanical, hand-held liquid-handling instrument that draws up and dispenses a precise, user-set volume of liquid within a fixed range, such as 20–200µl. A dial sets the exact volume before use, and a spring-loaded piston controls the draw and dispense action.
What is the difference between a single-channel and an 8-channel pipette?
A single-channel pipette dispenses one sample at a time through a single tip. An 8-channel (or 12-channel) pipette has a row of tips spaced to match a 96-well microplate, transferring the same volume into eight or twelve wells simultaneously — cutting plate-filling time in high-throughput lab work.
What volume range pipette do I need for PCR or molecular biology work?
Most PCR reaction setup uses the 0.5–10µl or 2–20µl range for primers, template DNA and enzymes, and the 20–200µl range for master mix and buffer additions. Full PCR workflows typically need one pipette from each of the 0.5–10µl, 20–200µl and 100–1000µl ranges.
How does the nozzle ejector work?
Pressing the ejector button pushes a sleeve down the pipette shaft that physically pops the disposable tip off the nozzle, so the used tip is never handled by hand.
Can I get a multichannel (8-channel) pipette from Ecotao?
Yes — manual 8-channel adjustable pipettes are available in 0.5–10µl, 5–50µl and 50–300µl ranges. These are quoted on request rather than listed on the online store.
Are Ecotao's adjustable pipettes calibrated?
Each pipette is factory-calibrated across its stated volume range before dispatch. Periodic in-house recalibration is recommended for pipettes used daily or subjected to drops.
