Industrial Borescope & Sewer Inspection Camera Systems
See inside drains, sewers, conduits and pipelines without digging. Ecotao supplies the Bor-GT30 (30 m) and Bor-GT100 (100 m) push-rod industrial borescopes, each with a 7 mm fibreglass push cable, a 23 mm stainless-steel camera head, a 9-inch sunlight-readable monitor and on-board video recording, delivered from Cape Town across South Africa and neighbouring countries.
What is an industrial borescope?
An industrial borescope is an inspection instrument that places a camera (or lens) inside a space you cannot see into directly and displays the image to the operator. Industrial models are built for site use, with rugged housings, waterproof camera heads, built-in LED lighting, long cables and on-board recording so that every finding can be documented.
For pipework, the most practical form is a push-rod pipe inspection camera, also called a sewer camera or drain camera. A semi-rigid fibreglass push cable is wound on a reel and pushed along the pipe, carrying the camera head through straight runs and bends while a distance counter records how far the camera has travelled. When the camera shows a crack, root intrusion, collapse or blockage, the counter tells you exactly where it is, so the repair can be targeted instead of guessed.
The two systems on this page are push-rod industrial borescopes. For engines, turbines, machinery and wall cavities, where a short thin probe is needed rather than a long push cable, see our 4-way articulating borescope, Olympus borescopes and Extech borescopes pages.
Industrial borescope systems from Ecotao
Both systems share the same camera, monitor, recording and battery platform. The difference is reach: 30 m for building drainage and 100 m for long runs, site work and municipal lines, where the Bor-GT100's self-levelling head and built-in 512 Hz transmitter earn their place.

How to choose an industrial borescope for pipe inspection
Work through these questions in order. The first two decide the model; the rest decide the accessories.
- How far do you need to see from one access point? Measure the longest run from your entry point (inspection eye, rodding point or manhole) to where the problem is likely to be, and add a margin for bends. Up to about 30 m, choose the Bor-GT30. Beyond that, or between manholes on municipal lines, choose the Bor-GT100.
- Will you need to dig to the fault? If the next step after finding a defect is excavation, you need to know where it is on the surface, not just how far along the pipe. The Bor-GT100's built-in 512 Hz transmitter, used with the optional locator, gives you that position.
- How large are the pipes? The camera head is 23 mm in diameter, and the Bor-GT100 datasheet shows larger protective covers and a wheeled skid fitted for bigger pipes, so the head stays centred. Pipes, traps and fittings narrower than the head need a thinner probe; see our articulating borescope options. Send Ecotao your smallest and largest pipe diameters to confirm the fit before ordering.
- Do you need to report to a client, insurer or municipality? Both systems record video, photos and audio commentary, and the distance counter appears with the image, so each defect can be logged against its position along the pipe.
- Where will you work? Both units run for about 8 hours on the built-in lithium battery and have a sun visor on the 9-inch screen, which matters for outdoor work in bright South African sunlight and on sites without a reliable power supply.
Industrial borescope applications in South Africa
Blocked drains and root intrusion
Many older South African suburbs still have clay drain pipes, which tree roots can penetrate at the joints. The camera shows whether a blockage is roots, fat build-up, a foreign object or a collapsed section, so the plumber can choose between jetting, cutting or excavating instead of trying each in turn.
Municipal sewer and stormwater lines
On long runs between manholes, the Bor-GT100's 100 m cable and self-levelling head let crews survey a whole section from one setup. The recorded footage, with distance overlay, documents displaced joints, cracks and infiltration for planning maintenance.
New installations and handover
Contractors use a pipe camera to check new drainage for debris, poor joints and back-falls before backfilling or handing over. A recorded survey gives clear evidence that the pipe was clean and intact at completion.
Property inspections and insurance claims
Home inspectors and loss adjusters use recorded footage to establish the condition of a property's drains before purchase, or the cause and position of a leak or collapse when a claim is lodged.
Industrial plants and mines
Process drains, cable ducts, conduits and ventilation lines can be inspected without stripping them out. The fibreglass push cable is anti-corrosion and cold-resistant, and the sapphire lens cover resists scratching in abrasive conditions.
Locating before excavation
With the Bor-GT100's 512 Hz transmitter and the optional locator, the camera's position and depth can be traced from the surface, so excavation is limited to the exact spot. This reduces damage to paving, gardens and other services.
Types of industrial borescope: which one do you need?
"Borescope" covers several instrument designs. Choosing the right type matters more than any single specification.

Industrial borescope FAQ
What is an industrial borescope?
An industrial borescope is an optical or video inspection instrument that puts a camera or lens inside a space you cannot see into directly, such as a pipe, drain, duct, engine, tank or wall cavity, and shows the image on a screen at the operator's end. Industrial models are built for site conditions: rugged housings, waterproof camera heads, long cables, built-in lighting and on-board recording so findings can be reported.
What is the difference between a borescope and a sewer inspection camera?
A sewer inspection camera is a type of industrial borescope designed for pipelines. Instead of a short rigid tube or thin flexible probe, it uses a stiff but bendable push cable (7 mm fibreglass on the Bor-GT30 and Bor-GT100) wound on a reel, so the camera can be pushed tens of metres along a drain. It also adds a distance counter so defects can be located along the pipe. Short-probe borescopes suit engines, machinery and cavities; push-rod pipe cameras suit drains, sewers and conduits.
Should I choose the 30 m Bor-GT30 or the 100 m Bor-GT100?
Choose by the longest run you need to inspect from one access point. The Bor-GT30 has a 30 m working range, which covers most household and building drainage from an inspection eye to the municipal connection. The Bor-GT100 has a 100 m working range for long building runs, sites, industrial plants and municipal sewer lines between manholes, and adds a self-levelling head and a built-in 512 Hz transmitter for above-ground locating.
What does the 512 Hz transmitter on the Bor-GT100 do?
The Bor-GT100 camera head has a built-in 512 Hz transmitter (sonde). With a compatible receiver, available as an optional locator accessory, you can find the camera's position from above ground, so you know exactly where to dig or cut to reach a blockage, collapse or root intrusion. Contact Ecotao to add the locator to your quote.
What is a self-levelling camera head?
A self-levelling camera head keeps the picture upright as the push cable twists inside the pipe, so the invert (bottom) of the pipe always stays at the bottom of the screen. This makes it easier to judge water levels, sags and the position of cracks or connections. The Bor-GT100 datasheet lists a self-levelling head; ask Ecotao about the Bor-GT30.
Can the inspection camera record video for reports and insurance claims?
Yes. Both systems record video (AVI), photos (JPG) and audio to a TF card, and a 16 GB card is included. The meter counter shows distance in metres or feet, so each defect can be logged with its position along the pipe. Recordings are commonly used for client reports, quotes, handover documentation and insurance claims.
How long does the battery last?
Both systems use a 12 V 4500 mAh lithium battery rated for about 8 hours of continuous operation, so a full day of site work does not depend on mains power or a generator.
Are the Bor-GT30 and Bor-GT100 in stock in South Africa?
Both are listed on the Ecotao store as available on backorder, with a stated lead time of 4 to 6 weeks. Contact Ecotao on +27 21 911 5835 or sales@ecotao.co.za for current lead times and delivery to South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho and Eswatini.
